Henare Hona O'Brien

I have both Māori and European hertiage.

I have two decades of experience in education, leadership training, and working with individuals, teams, and organisations, is where i operate best.

With an Education Degree, I have held leadership roles in both curriculum & cultural development. After leaving teaching, he was contracted to work with a local government service to facilitate & improve outcomes.

On entering the private, sector I developed a generative approach to learning which is now core to their leadership facilitation. Generative Learning is a way to faciliate a discovery approach. It collaboratively engages the learner, with distinctions, that challenge and extend thinking in order to expand and add to a person’s capacity to take new courses of action in their lives.

As the developer of a form of generative learning, created as a discovery-based framework that has people expand their perspectives, make better decisions, and take action without having to "learn" anything in the traditional sense.

Generative training workshops and coaching sessions have been used by audiences across many countries, helping them generate actionable results in their professional lives.

Henare’s Journey

My journey has been shaped by a rich blend of cultural experiences.

Growing up as an urban Māori in the 70s, 80s, and 90s—and growing up in a low-economic community. I know what it's like to be work through issues in life.

Recently, I returned from overseas. My wife, children, and I spent a decade living in Indonesia where we ran an export company.

My work is driven by a deep passion for helping others grow.

Whether coaching individuals one-on-one or facilitating group trainings, my approach often brings about change in emerging and generative ways.

I help teams and leaders overcome challenges, unlock potential, and bridge divides that restrict performance, leadership, and communication.
